Overview
This position is for a Design and Development Engineer in the Fixed Income & Liquidity Portfolio Management Tools team. The purpose of the team is to develop and maintain the portfolio management tools that form the heart of the Model-Driven & Quantitative Fixed Income Investment Platform.
The Fixed Income Business employs a number of investment techniques and strategies using multiple asset classes, including Bonds, Futures, FX, Interest Rate Derivatives, Credit, Inflation and Option based derivatives.
The Fixed Income & Liquidity Portfolio Management Tools team use multiple technologies comprising Java/J2EE, C#, Perl, SQL Server and Sybase as well as a range of industry best practices and tools that help deliver quality software.
Responsibilities
The Fixed Income & Liquidity Portfolio Management Tools team work closely with the Fixed Income Business to develop and enhance the product suite. The development team is encouraged to learn and understand the Fixed Income Business so that they can participate in complex discussions with the Business leads. This ensures that the technology is developed to an extremely high standard and is aligned closely with business requirements.
The development team is responsible for the quality of the software they deliver and utilize many industry best practices, for example, unit testing, continuous integration, refactoring, repeatable integration testing and collaborative team discussion and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
Candidates must have the following experience: • BSc. (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Mathematics or related subject • A solid understanding and multiple years experience working in the securities industry: OTC derivatives or Fixed Income • A detailed working knowledge of Interest Rate and Credit instruments and markets, and be comfortable discussing how the various markets compliment each other • Experience in working in global teams
Demonstrable expert knowledge in: • Developing client/server and distributed systems • Object-oriented analysis and design • Java • MQ frameworks and event-driven architecture • SQL Server • XML and XSD • ANT, Continuous Integration Tools, Unit testing, Subversion • Spring • Hibernate • SWING
Personal qualities: • Excellent analytical/problem solving skills • Excellent understanding of the mathematical models used in quantitative analytics • Good sense of prioritization • Demonstrated self-initiative • Ability to periodically work alternative hours as part of a support rotation
