 Job Title Application Operations Engineer

 Details Primary Responsibilities

Our client has an immediate opening for a seasoned engineer to help plan, facilitate, and manage projects and life-cycle service changes. Duties include transitioning new engineering projects from a development environment into an operational environment, capacity planning and participation in the design process.

The AppOps Engineer aligns engineering development requirements to the capabilities of the Technical Operation’s environment and establishes the administrative protocols that Operations and Engineering use throughout the development and life-cycle of a service.

Additionally, the AppOps Engineer eases the customer application into a non-stop service and introduces a service to the Technical Operations framework.

The candidate will need to become proficient in understanding how each software component, systems design, and configuration is linked together to form an end-to-end solution, and will be the primary operations technical point of contact for an assigned engineering project.

This position requires ‘Service Level' technical leadership. This candidate will be heavily involved in projects that touch critical customer facing operational environments. Further, the candidate will be required to provide technical solution guidance to engineering organizations. Approximately 70% of the job will involve implementation shepherding and 30% preparation, planning, pre-launch support, post implementation advisory, documentation, and mentoring.

Requirements:

• BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 3-5 years administering Linux systems in a production environment.
• Experience with multiple Linux distributions.
• Proven ability to quickly learn and implement unfamiliar technologies.
• Configuration and maintenance of common applications such as Apache, memcached, Squid, MySQL, NFS, DHCP, NTP, SSH, DNS, and SNMP.
• Strong knowledge of Linux kernel configuration, performance monitoring, and tuning.
• Perl and bash scripting.
• Experience working with load balancing technologies and large-scale web server farms.
• Prefer at least 2 years of applied project management experience within technology fields.
• A strong background in internet service deployment, provisioning, IP networking, service infrastructure, or software deployments.
• Excellent organization skills, project tracking abilities, communications skills.
• Detail oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong business acumen, excellent analytical and creative problem solving skills
• Demonstrated advanced understanding of business processes and risk management.
